| Mahale is remote and isolated and can only be reached by boat. This makes for unspoiled rainforest, moist and dry savannah, miombo woodlands and lowland forest. This wide variety of terrain makes Mahale's vast animal life possible. Here you will find some of the last remaining wild chimpanzees in Africa, of which more than 100 have been identified and named individually. Mahale is also home to elephant, buffalo, leopard, giraffe, eland, lion, bushpig, brush-tailed porcupine and other varieties of primates. All game viewing is done by foot. You may stroll through the forests, climb the Mahale Mountains, or quietly relax on the sandy shores of Lake Tanganyika. |
