serengeti plainsSerengeti - the name comes from the Maasai word siringet, 'endless plains'. With literally millions of grazing animals and an estimated 1500 lions, wild animals extend as far as the eye can see. Lions are not the only predators that make their home here. The abundance of plant eating animals assure that the cheetah, jackal, crocodile, leopard, hyena and vultures will all have plenty to eat. The landscape is amazing with the horizon changing from grasslands to flat topped acacia trees, to palms, large thorned brush and large rock mounds. Baboons can be seen eating flowers in the very tops of the trees, while other creatures such as the green tree snake are harder to find. At times it seems that you are back in the dinosaur age with huge elephants eating, long necked giraffe running and enormous marabou storks flying in the air. Not enough can be said to truly describe this majestic part of the world - it has to been seen to truly be understood.
